Google TV tries again, adds Android App-Suppport

Google is ready to release a software update for the hardware Google TV its partners. The update focuses on interface simplification, improved content discovery, YouTube integration and Android app support. Kamangar, VP of product management, and Vincent Dureau, Director of development, said in a blog post that Google expects to deliver the software update to Sony Internet TV next week and Logitech Revue units soon after.New customizable home screen is easier to understand and organize than his previous form. Google has added an Android app called "TV & movie" to help people find something to see when they don't know what to look for--the ability to run Android apps on Google TV hardware is the product's main function. YouTube is now more closely associated with Google TV, so that almost all content topic keywords can be turned into its own channel.

Google's pitch for the "new Google TV" hint is no longer on a revolution. It used to be Google TV aimed to "open up your living room." But "open" in Hollywood means opening the company your wallet. Hence Web content blockade started late last year by ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and Viacom to preserve their online shows from being viewed through Google TV-browser: Studios feared that Google TV will convert TV audience for a Web audience, reduce its advertising and content agreements with cable and broadcast channels.
For the game developers Conference in March acknowledged Google engineer Andres Ferrate in a presentation to potential developers that Google TV company's messages about Google TV had missed the mark. It was clear that Google wanted to distance themselves from the misperception that Google TV then aspired to be a cable-killer. Google TV still represents the marriage of TV and the Internet, but now the newlyweds sleeping chastely in separate bedrooms. [Find out what Google says about Google TV to developers in March. Les GDC: Reframing Google TV. ] Thus we have Google's new messaging services: "Play nice with stuff you already." Move along, there is no revolution to see here. Mr. Nice Guy approach may be the battle power of fatigue, the result of the blow-back from years of copyright lawsuits, Google Street View privacy concerns and a fight with Microsoft has spiraled into a serious antitrust issues. Or it could just be a pragmatic approach to dealing with an industry where expensive content not can only be indexed will be collected and organized so text have been commodified. But no matter what Google is hoping that Google TV will receive a better reception than the Rough cut that arrived last year. If Google TV flops around, it is more likely that Apple will conquer the living room without opposition. Apple is said to be working on a TV, a project that can make their Apple TV ' hobby ' to a meaningful revenue stream.
