SAHIWAL, Oct. 28: Medical education does not appear on the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-NS priorities. Fact was presented at a meeting Friday of the divisional Commissioner Office discussed arrangements approved under the provincial annual Development program (ADP).
A specification that is promising Rs500 million for Medical College Sahiwal in ADP, but couldn't make the approved schemes. Congress learned that 54 development schemes worth Rs 2.4 billion, all recommended by 's-N Assembly members in Sahiwal division, had been approved.
The meeting chaired by Commissioner Qazi Ashfaq, Sahiwal learned grants for development schemes this year including: Rs666 million for Okara-Maripattan Road; Rs482 million Deepalpur-Bonga Hayat road; Rs 1.34 million for dualisation of Sahiwal, Pakpattan road; Rs321 millions of Okara DHQ hospital; Rs 92.546 million for the girls ' college, Gogera;
Rs 75.187 million for a Sports gymnasium in Sahiwal; and Rs 53.55 million for rural water supply scheme, city of Harrapa.
An official quoted Commissioner as saying that the Fund allocated for Medical College, Sahiwal dualization of Sahiwal-Arifwala Road and the construction of a girls college near DPS had not been approved in provincial ADP due to lack of funds.
The Government had announced the Rs500 million for medical college in november 2010. The College also suffered a setback when Pakistan medical and Dental Council in their meeting on October 26 showed concerns on the lack of teachers in college. The problem might jeopardize the recognition of the college as a valid institution. The College has launched'S BBS with 100 students. Classes are held at the DHQ hospital.
Principal Dr Zameer told Dawn project concept ' of the campus building was in the process but the delay in the issuance of funds would impact on the project. At the moment runs the college through the interim provincial grants.Dawn.
